Policy institutes and think tanks have the ability to influence policy at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels. In addition, grassroots movements and lived experience research can help to inform think tanks and elected officials on policy direction. Many prominent think tanks are located in Ottawa and other major cities in order to maximize their influence on policy-making. This section explores policy ideas that exist outside of formal governmental systems.
